What needs to work better?

Shared credentials, unclear permissions, and disconnected door events make it difficult to know who should be where. A useful access system connects physical door behavior with the organization’s authorization process.

Doors & controlled areas

Review door hardware, controllers, power, communications, and the boundary between public, staff, and restricted areas.

Credentials & permissions

Define how credentials are issued, changed, and withdrawn, with time schedules and role-based access appropriate to the operation.

Events & exceptions

Plan how operators review denied access, forced or held-open doors, visitor exceptions, and other events that need attention.

Integrations & dependencies

Assess readers, controllers, door hardware, identity workflows, and any video or visitor-management links. Emergency egress and life-safety interfaces need appropriate specialist coordination; access control must not be treated as a substitute for that review.

Agree the handover before the work starts.

Include the relevant deliverables in the project scope, so both teams know what acceptance means.

  • An agreed door schedule and permission model
  • Tests for normal access, denied access, and agreed fault scenarios
  • Credential administration and operator handover guidance

Questions before you start

Can existing credentials or readers be reused?

That depends on credential technology, reader/controller support, licensing, and the security requirements. LFS reviews the installed equipment before making a recommendation.

Is PointGuard Access the same as door access control?

No. PointGuard Access is an LFS-developed security operations product. A physical access-control system includes field hardware and controls; a product integration is a separate scope decision.

What happens during a power or network interruption?

Required behavior must be agreed for each opening and supported by the hardware, power design, and life-safety requirements. It is part of the design and commissioning discussion, not a universal setting.
